Broadband Networks and Services
The activities of the Research Institute of Posts and Telecommunications in the area of broadband networks and services are focused on solution of tasks of complex development of the electronic communications infrastructure and related services of the information society for public sector and the enterprises acting on the market of electronic communications.
Selected Implemented Projects
Convergence of ICT networks and services in communication infrastructure of SR
Annotation: Research and development project with the aim to design the infrastructure concept of converged telecom and IP network in the environment of information and communication infrastructure for both public and private sector.
Project outputs:

Proposal of infrastructure concept of converged telecom and IP network in the environment of information and communication infrastructure in SR;

Pilot project of multiservices global converged telecom and IP network, verification and testing of the designed concept;

Proposal of strategy migration of telecommunications networks towards next generation networks (Next Generation Networks - NGN) from the view of research and development methods supporting the optimal design of networks and technological components, implementation of functions, services and applications, quality of service, and data protection.

Prognosis of electronic communications sector development until 2013
Annotation:
The document evaluates the current state of the electronic communications sector development, its developmental trends in EU in view of political and strategic aims in EU. It contains also setting up prognosis concerning electronic communications sector development in Slovakia till the year 2013 in the context of basic aspects of electronic communications (EU and Slovakia) development and contains the basis for defining medium-term and long-term strategy of electronic communications sector development in Slovakia.

The trends in access networks
Annotation: The study presents overview of trends and application possibilities for integration of new technologies into access electronic communications networks. It also maps the current trends in other networks, which may to a certain extent emerge as an alternative of traditional access networks and can compete in the provision of the broadband services (power lines networks, cable television networks).

Pilot project of possibilities to provide broadband services via WAN-ATM network
Annotation: Project was carried out in co-operation with Slovak Telekom (ST, a.s.) as part of a state order of MDPT SR No. 0412940303 within project named " Provision of telecommunication infrastructures for transition towards multimedia services of information society ".
