Assessment of DVB-T Receivers

In the process of DVB-T implementation it is necessary to guarantee that consumers, when buying digital receivers, are adequately informed about their characteristics with special regard to the particularity of the Slovak Republic (e.g. correct display of Slovak alphabetic characters). For that reason, in April 2011, the Slovak Standards Institute published the Technical Standard Information TNI 36 7554 "Technical Specification of DVB-T Receivers Intended for the Slovak Market". This TNI contains requirements on:

• minimum facilities,
• recommended facilities,
• minimum complementary facilities,
• recommended complementary facilities

• Set-Top-Boxes (i.e. external equipment connected between antenna and existing analogue TV set),
• Integrated receivers (i.e. TV sets with embedded DVB-T module; at the present, such receivers can also be able to receive analogue signals, though it is not obligatory),
• DVB-T PC modules (DVB-T PC cards inserted into PCI or PCMCIA slots; DVB-T PC external USB modules).

Assessment of DVB-T receivers is carried out by the Research Institute of Posts and Telecommunications (Slovak abbreviation: VÚS, n.o.) in Banská Bystrica, whereas the tests themselves are carried out in the accredited laboratories of this Institute.

Receivers, which comply with the Technical Standard Information TNI 36 7554 requirements, are permitted to use the logo "Vhodné pre slovenské DVB-T"(Suitable for Slovak DVB-T)
